# Work with your existing design

> Choose Work with my design when Miles should edit the current WordPress site.

Choose **Work with my design** when you want Miles to change the current WordPress site while following its existing visual direction.

Use this path for:

* reviewing the current site
* editing an existing page
* creating a new page or section for this site
* redesigning a page or section within the current visual system
* making copy, image, layout, or style refinements
* adding functionality to this site

Miles opens the editor for the current site. It does not create a separate design sandbox or import another design.

## When the option is unavailable

**Work with my design** requires a block theme or a static homepage. If the site has neither, the option is disabled and the plugin explains what is needed.

If your goal is to replace the visual direction instead, go back and choose **Start a new design**. Miles can create that work in a separate sandbox so you can review it without changing the current site.

Read [Choose how to start in WordPress](/getting-started/choose-a-wordpress-path) for all three plugin paths.

## Start safely

Ask Miles to inspect the site before making changes:

```text theme={"dark"}
Review this site and suggest the safest improvements.
Do not publish anything yet.
```

For larger redesigns, ask for a draft where possible:

```text theme={"dark"}
Create a draft redesign of the Services page.
Keep the current page unchanged.
```

Keep a recent backup and review changes before publishing. Read [Site protection](/safety/site-protection) before broad or destructive work.

## Using a coding agent

The plugin menu applies when you are working directly in WordPress. With a coding agent, choose the WordPress environment together: a Miles design sandbox for separate new work, a local WordPress site for safe development, or a paired remote WordPress site for the existing site.

Read [Use a local or remote WordPress site](/coding-agent/local-wordpress-site) for the agent-specific setup path.
